The Guardian Holding Sword - Detroit

This is a decorative element inside the lobby of the beautiful Guardian Building located in downtown Detroit, Michigan. It is made of marble and carved to depict a Guard holding a mighty sword symbolizing how this Bank will protect their patron's money inside. This Guardian carrying a sword is on both sides of the entrance into the main atrium of the Guardian Building and is quite impressive. Also known as the Cathedral of Finance, the Guardian Building built in the late 1920's, was the tallest masonry building in the world when it opened in 1929. The Guardian Building is on the United States National Register for Historic Places and was named a National Historic Landmark in 1989.
