Lobby Of Guardian Building In Detroit At Christmas

This is the colorful lobby of the Guardian Building located in downtown Detroit at Christmas time. Also known as the Cathedral of Finance, the Guardian Building built in the late 1920's, was the tallest masonry building in the world when it opened in 1929. Built for the Union Trust Company, the Guardian Building has been the home for banks, a World War II Army command center, Michigan Consolidated Gas headquarters, and is currently the headquarters for Wayne County, Michigan government (which owns the building). The Guardian Building is on the United States National Register for Historic Places and was named a National Historic Landmark in 1989. When you enter the building, you see a beautiful lobby with a three-story vaulted ceiling adorned with Aztec designs created with local Detroit Pewabic Pottery tiles with their iridescent glazes. When you go up the marble stairs to the promenade, you will see this Tiffany clock as well as another matching Tiffany clock on the other side. When you enter the main area of the building where the banking would take place you will see the lovely painted ceiling, mural of Michigan, and the beautiful Tiffany clock above the stairs that led back down to the lobby.

Stop And Smell The Flowers - Hyacinth

One of my favorite flowers in the Spring are Hyacinth as they have the most lovely fragrance! I pared up one of my favorite sayings with a picture I took of a lovely hyacinth. It says "Take time to stop and smell the flowers." It's the little things in life that can mean so much! Hyacinthus grows from bulbs, each producing around four to six linear leaves and one to three spikes or racemes of flowers. Hyacinths are often associated with spring and rebirth.

Golden Retriever on a Snowy Day

This is my sweet female Golden Retriever that is this sweetest and most friendliest dog I know! Golden Retrievers are fabulous pets for those that have young kids as they are naturally gentle with them! The Golden Retriever is a large-sized breed of dog bred as gun dogs to retrieve shot waterfowl such as ducks and upland game birds during hunting and shooting parties, and were named 'retriever' because of their ability to retrieve shot game undamaged. The Golden Retrievers' intelligence makes them a versatile breed and allows them to fill a variety of roles common ones being guide dog for the blind, hearing dog for the deaf, hunting dog, detection dog, and search and rescue participant. The breed's friendly, gentle temperament means it is unsuited to being a professional guard dog, but its temperament has also made it the third-most popular family dog breed in the US.

Praying Mantis

This is a Praying Mantis that I was able to snap some pictures of one day. The mantises or Mantodea have elongated bodies that may or may not have wings, but all have fore legs that are greatly enlarged and adapted for catching and gripping prey; their upright posture, while remaining stationary with fore arms folded, has led to the name praying mantises. Sexual cannibalism is common among most predatory species of mantises in captivity. It has sometimes been observed in the field, where about a quarter of male-female encounters results in the males being eaten by the female.

Colorful Dragons Chasing The Flaming Pearl

In the center of this lovely ceiling decoration is an image of two Dragons chasing the Flaming Pear done in gold gilt. In Asia, the dragon is revered as a divine mythical creature, a potent symbol of strength, good fortune and transformation—often portrayed chasing after a luminous pearl. There are traces of the importance of the “sacred pearl” of wisdom, or yang energy, in early Taoism, but it is best preserved in Buddhism as the jewel in the lotus, a jewel that grants all wishes. The mystical flaming pearl, a sphere ringed by a fiery blaze, is often viewed as a metaphor for wisdom, enlightenment and spiritual essence. Dragons are depicted in seeming pursuit, reaching out to clutch at the elusive object; swirling through mists and shadows, mouth open and eyes bulging in anticipation of achieving the prize afforded by clutching the pearl, often identified as ball lightning, the sun, the moon or rolling thunder.
