It is the only living member of the genus Caloenas and the closest living relative of the extinct dodo.

Fallen Autumn Leaves

Here are some lovely autumn leaves that have changed colors and fallen down to the ground. As the sun was setting on this late October day, the leaves were resting just waiting for someone to walk along them. If you look closely among the leaves, you will see a hidden skull!

Male African Implala Antelope

This is a male African Impala Antelope because only the males will have horns. The scientific name of the impala is Aepyceros melampus. The vernacular name "impala" comes from the Zulu language meaning "gazelle". The impala is native to Angola, Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Impalas are diurnal, most active shortly after dawn and before dusk.

Handsome Gorilla

I love the pose this Gorilla is giving me! Gorillas are ground-dwelling, predominantly herbivorous apes that inhabit the forests of central Africa. A silverback gorilla is the mature, experienced male leader of a group of mountain gorillas in the wild. Named for the silver saddles across his back, the silverback is responsible for the safety of his group.

African Jacana Bird

This is an African Jacana Bird. The African Jacana favors the freshwater wetlands with floating vegetation where it can move easily thanks to the long toes. The African Jacana breeds in wetlands throughout sub-Saharan Africa, but it avoids the forested regions and the arid areas. The African Jacana is a good swimmer and diver. When foraging, it swims over open water from one vegetated area to another.

This is a picture of the Mount Everest ride located in Orlando, Florida. Mount Everest Mount Everest, also known in Nepal as Sagarmāthā and in Tibet as Chomolungma, is Earth's highest mountain. It is located in the Mahalangur mountain range in Nepal. This is actually a roller-coaster based off of this famous mountain. Love the colorful flags that crisscross across the area around this ride.

British Red Telephone Box And Pillar Box

This is a charming picture of some well known British cultural icons: the red telephone Box and Pillar Box. A pillar box is a free-standing post box. Most traditional British pillar boxes produced after 1905 are made of cast iron and are cylindrical. The red telephone box, a telephone kiosk for a public telephone designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, was a familiar sight on the streets of the United Kingdom, Malta, Bermuda and Gibraltar. From 1926 on wards, the fascias of the kiosks were emblazoned with a prominent crown, representing the British government.

This is artwork is painted on the lobby walls of the beautiful Detroit Opera House in Detroit, Michigan. In 1922, architect C. Howard Crane toured the great opera houses of Europe and they became the major influence in his design for the Detroit Opera House. Fashioned in the Italian Renaissance style, Crane incorporated all the features that made Detroiters then (and now) feel as though they had taken the trip to Europe without leaving their hometown: large crystal chandeliers, a grand marble staircase, lavish carpeting, walls decorated in elegant murals and original oil paintings. This is an example of the art work that adorns the walls of the opera house which features several Angels holding instruments.

Balcony in Detroit Orchestra Hall in Michigan

This is one of the lovely balconies in the Detroit Orchestra Hall located in downtown Detroit, Michigan. The hall is renowned for its superior acoustic properties and serves as the home of the internationally known Detroit Symphony Orchestra (DSO), the fourth oldest orchestra in the United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. The 2014-seat hall was designed by the noted theater architect, C. Howard Crane. The first concert took place on October 23, 1919 and the hall remained the home of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra until 1939.

Oscar's Super Service Gas Station In Hollywood Studios

This is the famous Oscar's Super Service Station that is located in Walt Disney World's Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida. Oscar's is a prototypical Art Deco-era gas station and serves as a symbol of the car culture that spread throughout Southern California during the heyday of Hollywood. Specifically, the shop pays homage to a particular Mobile service station that opened in Los Angles in 1934. I love the vintage 1950's Chevrolet 6400 Tow Truck that is the focal point of this picture.

Glowing Christmas Tree

Here is a lovely Christmas Tree that was decorated with lots of Hallmark Ornaments and the tree's lights giving off a glorious glow. I could just picture how it would look with presents spread out underneath it just waiting for the family to open on Christmas morning!

Fallen Leaves on the Sidewalk

Love this down low view of these fallen leaves on our sidewalk. Something I loved to do when I was a kid was to kick the leaves that had fallen on the ground and hear them crunch and rustle around as I plowed through them. These leaves seem to be beckoning me to do just that.

A Tranquil Fall Pond In Michigan

This tranquil scene of a pond located at George George Park in Clinton Township, Michigan was a lovely sight to see. The Fall season in Michigan is always a stunning time of year to witness in person and is personally my favorite season. Here the water in the pond is nice and calm with some Mallard Ducks relaxing peacefully as the fall colors of the trees reflect into the water.

Abandoned Detroit Packard Plant Graffiti

The graffiti on this crumbling brick wall is located on the property of the abandoned Detroit Packard Plant in Michigan. The Packard Automotive Plant is a former automobile-manufacturing factory in Detroit, Michigan where luxury Packard cars were made by the Packard Motor Car Company and later by the Studebaker-Packard Corporation. Since its abandonment, the plant has been a haven for graffiti vandals, urban explorers, paintballers and auto scrappers, and much of the wiring and other building material has been scavenged.

Joseph J. Hogan U.S. Mail Boat To Freighters On Detroit River

This photo has so much going on it! It is the Detroit River with the skyline of Detroit, Michigan on the left and Windsor, Ontario Canada on the right. You can see the Ambassador Bridge which connects the two countries along with the U.S. Mail Boat called the Joseph J. Hogan which delivers mail and supplies to the freighters that travel up and down the waterway of the Great Lakes. The J.W. Westcott Company is in charge of these mail boats. All deliveries are carried out by the 45-foot J.W. Westcott II, with the Joseph J. Hogan standing by as a back up boat (pictured).

Panoramic View Of Downtown Detroit, Michigan And Windsor, Ontario

This is a stunning panoramic view down the Detroit River with downtown Detroit, Michigan on the right and Windsor, Ontario, Canada on the left which is connected by the Ambassador Bridge. It was a lovely spring day with a clear blue sky and the fresh water was glistening in the sunlight. You can clearly see the Renaissance Center (also known as the GM Renaissance Center and nicknamed the RenCen) which is a group of seven interconnected skyscrapers.
